We love our Quiksilver Pro NY partners: unsOund Surf

One of our official retailers for the Quiksilver Pro NY, unsOund Surf was founded in 1997 by two surfers, Dave Juan and Mike Nelson, who felt they could provide accurate information about products they wanted to sell. Both Mike and Dave still surf, and have a surf/skate/snow team to help test all the products in the store – which means that they always have the best, most up-to-date info on the stuff you want to buy.  Show some love and make sure to check ‘em out when you’re in town!

Mondays – all-you-can-eat Monster wings for $9.99, and $10 pitchers

We love our Quiksilver Pro partners: Jimmy Hays Steak House

Posted in Dinner, Local tips, Long Island, Quiksilver Pro partner, Restaurants with tags , , , , , , , , on August 10, 2011 by quiksilverpronyguide

People claim that Jimmy Hays is the best steakhouse on Long Island, and who are we to argue with the people?  If you love cheese or garlic bread, order the infamous Gorgonzola Garlic Bread appetizer.  And since it IS a steakhouse, you’re pretty much obligated to order beef, like the Brontosaurus-sized porterhouse for two or the ribeye.  Tip: Jimmy Hays is one of the few places on our Long Island list that you can’t roll into right off the beach; shorts, sand, and flip-flops won’t fly at this spot.

We love our Quiksilver Pro partners: Air and Speed Surf Shop and Camp

Posted in Local tips, Long Island, Quiksilver Pro partner with tags , , , , on August 10, 2011 by quiksilverpronyguide

When they started, Air and Speed’s goal was to provide the growing surf culture in the Montauk community with quality surf boards and apparel. Coming up on their 15th year in business, they’re now not only popular with locals, but also with all the visitors to Montauk during the warm summer months.

Air and Speed also runs a surf camp every year from July through the second week in August, open to motivated shredders ages 7-15.  Start planning for 2012 now!  Air and Speed owner Stu Foley leads the camp, with additional instruction from his sons Michael, Jay and Max and NY lifeguard Bob Miller.  A typical day at surf camp includes step by step instructions on surfing, water safety tips, inspirational speeches and story-talk by the experienced instructors, water time to practice what they have learned, snacks and drinks, and sometimes a fun game on the beach. They make sure every camper, regardless of experience, gets one-on-one attention and is trained on how to read the surf, paddle out, and catch a wave.

For more info on the 2012 surf camp, call the store…or just stop by!

Dining in Long Island: Vito’s

If Vito’s was a person, he’d be a big Italian guy that was all, “Oi mate, how’s about a pint and some chips?  Fuhgeddaboutit!”  ‘Cause see, the big thing about Vito’s is its fish and chips – not pizza, as the name might imply.  Prime location right on the beach side, next to the showers.  Showers!
