Shopping in NYC: Brooklyn round-up

Posted in Brooklyn, Shopping with tags , , , , , , , , on August 29, 2011 by quiksilverpronyguide

So we gave you the Manhattan round-up – now it’s time for Brooklyn, where the vibe is way more laid back.  If you know the right places, you’re more likely to get edged out by the neighborhood grannie who really wants some catnip soap from Kill Devil Hill than the hipster who’s desperate for the $100 vintage G n’R tee.

Brooklyn Flea

This is, hands-down, one of the best flea markets in the world.  Bold claim, yes – so why don’t you get on over there and try to refute it yourself? Make sure to grab a strawberry basil popsicle from People’s Pops, a beer making kit from Brooklyn Brew Shop, or some Portobello jerky from King’s County Jerky.

Drinking in Brooklyn: The Shop Brooklyn

Dude, having some trouble with your bike (that’d be motorcycle, not fixed-gear)?  Take it down to The Shop and while you’re there, have a $6 special: a Bud and plate of barbeque from the shop’s smoker.  And yes, this is actually a working garage that just got their beer and wine license and is now a bar, too, sometimes with bands.  You gotta wonder if they’re pulling one over on us, but who cares when it’s this fun?

Drinking in Brooklyn: Saint Vitus

As the name implies, Saint Vitus is a straight-up metal bar with live bands, Kill ‘Em All metal karaoke, and a weekly hardcore night.  $3 buns (cheese steak, sausage, bbq tofu and more) sop up booze specials like the Pope: a Coors Banquet tall boy and shot of Tullamore Dew with a Brooklyn Brine pickleback.  If we could live here, we would.  All hail Saint Vitus.
